ODDCO Bluegrass Jam night in Pittsboro

First and Third Thursdays of the month are for bluegrass pickers. Tune up your banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, Dobro or bass.

The ODDCO jam welcomes musicians looking to pick some bluegrass tunes. Feel free to bring your friends for listening. The bar will be open, we have draft beer, wine and ciders. (and maybe some pastries) If the weather is good there’s room outside for additional picking circles.

All skill levels from pros to beginners are welcome to join in but this is not a learning jam (often called a “slow jam” in bluegrass circles). We believe the jam will be a great place for musicians to meet and get to know other bluegrass pickers…. who knows, maybe you’ll even form your next band.

Land Is + Sun Studies

Land Is + Sun Studies

Land Is is the musical identity of Pittsboro musician and journalist Corbie Hill. After years playing loud and intense music with heavy prog outfit Alpha Cop, Corbie's luck turned substantially. He lost a parent, and then both he and his wife were diagnosed with cancer less than a year apart from each other. Through Land Is (and with the help of a talented core of musician friends) he navigates the terrifying circumstances of the past few years, slowly but surely processing a brutal run of luck -- and always finding hope within the darkness.

Sun Studies is a songwriting moniker featuring the wide-ranging baritone of Reid Johnson. Characters conveying false truths, current existential anxieties, and mental illness come to the forefront, carried by Johnson’s swooning voice and arresting melodies.

“spare, saturnine acoustic folk-rock bears along a striking vocal performance, heavily draped but surprisingly mobile. Johnson’s baritone has the stern majesty of Scott Walker, but it’s softened by the syrupy ache of Roy Orbison...”
-Brian Howe, Independent Weekly (NC)

Hindsight Bluegrass

Join us for an evening of modern and traditional bluegrass by Hindsight Bluegrass

The word hindsight has different meanings. One meaning in the dictionary, “understanding of a situation or event only after it has happened or developed”, came to mind after getting together to play music with friends one cold winter night. We knew we were heading into an endeavor where we could all use our talents to the fullest to create music with friends that would bring out the best in each of us. The band consists of Scott Hancock, Stan Brown, Fiddlin’ Al McCanless, Jim Boren and Julie Brown.

The Straight 8's

The Straight 8's

ODDCO presents the Straight 8’s!

Rockabilly, Neo-Rockabilly, Hillbilly, Jump Blues, Swing ...  One of the finest things about the Straight 8s is their ability to cover a lot of ground within their genre. From traditionally styled numbers to barn burners, old country to jazz, the 8s manage to keep it feeling fresh, relevant, and braised in just the right blend of nostalgic juices. NOT a cover band, NOT an oldies act, but a truly unique trio who work hard to write, record, and perform music that resonates with listeners drawn to the raw energy embodied in traditional rockabilly music while still wandering freely outside the prescribed boundaries.

Hi-Fi Feast: Interactive Vinyl Night & Dinner with John Delaforce

Here we go again, except this time, we’re throwing dinner into the mix. Join us for a good old fashioned pot luck meal in a vintage restored metal house surrounded by outsider art, while the turntables spin surprise after surprise … this is not your Grandma’s pot luck.

John will spin albums while we drink, dine and absorb the music in our living room the way vinyl was meant to be listened to, one song at a time or an entire album side. Analog turntables with that Hi-Fi sound. Bring your records and your favorite covered dish or dessert! Message us with your dish idea.

Ryan Kennemur

Join us for a night of music by singer songwriter Ryan Kennemur. Ryan will play a couple of solo sets on Saturday night at ODDCO (there may be a guest appearance) . He is the guitarist and singer for the band Dragmatic from Raleigh NC.

"Leave it to Ryan Kennemur, possibly the most self-effacing rock-band frontman in this or any other town, to name his band Dragmatic’s new album “At Least We’re Not Dead Yet” – even when he’s trying to be glass-half-full about things, optimism just seems like an easy way out for someone as modest as him. But Dragmatic wears that underdog status well on “Not Dead Yet,” a sharp collection of raw, twangy pop-rock that should be in the strike zone for anyone who fondly remembers the Replacements." - David Menconi (Raleigh N&O)
